Liz, Great podcast! Your student's idea of recording lectures with cell phones is a valuable idea that educators should look into. I do not see cell phones being approved for this (at this time), but with an iPod with application capabilities, students could use an application called iTalk Lite to record an unlimited amount of audio. I actually used my iPod Touch and the iTalk Lite application to record my interviews with my students. I find that when students have to focus on what to write down for notes during a lecture, they do not grasp the material as well as those students who did not focus so much on what they were writing and more on listening.
